Legality and Safety of CBD.

Published by Kalpana Jagggi on Jan 7th 2020

Kalpana NYC is always looking for the latest and greatest uses for plants. That’s why when we heard about CBD, we had to find out more. We learned that CBD is a chemical, derived from hemp plants, that has been reported to have helped consumers with everything from sleep to epilepsy.

Legality and Safety of CBD

Since CBD is derived from hemp, a plant in the cannabis family, you may be wondering about its legality. Hemp was nationally legalized in 2018, and since then CBD has begun to be sold across the country. CBD actually has a pretty interesting history on it’s journey to become a health craze. We tell the whole story on our blog, so be sure to check it out!

Another concern for newbies with CBD might be it’s safety, but luckily, CBD has been shown to be almost completely safe, except for interactions with a few medications. For this reason, you should always check with your doctor before starting any new supplement. Mild side effects of CBD could be drowsiness or change in appetite.

What does CBD do?

What CBD won’t do is get you high like marijuana does. It is derived from cannabis plants that don’t contain THC, cannabis’ psychoactive ingredient. The main effects of CBD reported are physical relaxation, stress relief, and a change in alertness or sedation.

Due to a long legal battle, CBD is still fairly new, so research is still finding out the full range of its benefits. Anecdotally, most CBD customers use it for anxiety, pain relief, insomnia, and epilepsy. Correct dosing of CBD can vary from person to person, which is another good reason to ask your doctor’s advice on your specific case.

Forms of CBD

CBD is already being produced as many different products, so it can be difficult to know where to start. You may run into a few key terms when it comes to CBD.

Full-spectrum means the product contains the full range of chemicals from the plant, and can even contain trace amounts of THC from hemp

Broad spectrum means that all the chemicals from the plant are present, except THC is removed

CBD Isolate means that CBD has been scientifically isolated without any other chemicals

There are dozens of CBD products out there - oils, capsules, tinctures, balms, skincare, and more! Which one is best for you may take some experimentation. At Kalpana, we chose the best CBD products from the best source that we knew our customers would love.

Our CBD tinctures were chosen for their great taste and easy consumption method. Tinctures can be dropped in drinks or food or taken under the tongue. CBD balm is a topical product that you can rub on sore or tense areas for local relief. Because we’re crazy about natural skincare, we couldn’t resist stocking a CBD face mask.
