Essential Oils to Add to Your Beauty Routine

Published by Kalpana Jaggi on Nov 15th 2022

Did you know that essential oils can be a great tool to boost your beauty routine? Essential oils for aromatherapy are becoming increasingly popular. Many don’t know, however, that the same oils can also benefit your hair, skin and nails.

If you don’t already have a regular beauty routine, it’s never too late to start. The act of caring for yourself daily can have a multitude of benefits for your body and mind. So, try starting your morning with a quick skincare sesh!

Basic Beauty Routine

Start by cleansing your face with an energising cleanser like our Almond Orange Face Scrub. Citrus is a great way to get an energising boost to start your day. Alternatively you can make your own natural cleanser by adding a drop of lavender oil to a penny-size drop of honey, massaging into your face for about 5 mins, then rinsing clean. Afterwards, rebalance your skin with some calming and nurturing rosewater, which has been used as a skin remedy since ancient times. You can even finish off by adding a drop or two of essential oil to your favorite moisturiser or carrier oil.

Safety Tips

If you want to add essential oils into your beauty routine, it’s important to know some basic safety information. Not all oils are appropriate for all skin types. For example, sandalwood, rose, and patchouli oils are great if you have dry skin, but would be seriously counterproductive if you’re already oily. On the other hand, drying oils like eucalyptus and tea tree are great for oily skin, but could be disastrous if you’re dry.

Additionally, some oils have potentially harmful side effects like phototoxicity (they’ll burn you if you go out in the sun with them on). Always read all the information on a specific oil before purchasing, never put undiluted oils on your skin, and make sure to do a patch test before using a new product on your face to avoid unwanted reactions.

Hair, Nails & Body

Similarly to your face, your body can also benefit from essential oils. Try adding a couple drops of your favorite essential oil to your body moisturizer for added skin benefits and to leave you smelling amazing! Alternatively, for oilier skin, try a body spray like our ylang ylang water for a relaxing and refreshing after-shower experience.

Many people have already learned about adding moisturizing oils like argan into their hair care routine. A drop of the right essential oil can add to the nourishing effects of your favorite hair oil. If you’ve got thin or oily hair, try a drop of clarifying peppermint. For thicker or dryer hair, try a drop of hydrating rosemary oil.

Hair and nails are mostly made from the same protein, keratin. So, just like your hair, botanical oils can help your nails stay strong. Jojoba oil is great for your nails, and you can boost the effect by adding a little lavender or lemon essential oil. Add a drop to your cuticles and massage all over each nail to keep you nails moisturized and avoid breakage.

Essential oils are a great addition to your beauty routine, and choosing the right product can help your skin, hair, and nails look amazing. However, consistency is key, so it might take a couple of weeks before you start to see visible results.
